HOW AND WHY DID YOU BEGIN SAGE MAGAZINE?

I wanted to cultivate a space to amplify local voices from my community in a visually pleasing book medium. I was feeling so inspired by conversations I was having about; trails people were backpacking along, sourdough bread they were making from scratch, social justice work they were engaging in, and organic farms they were working on. I wanted to share those conversations in a creative, meaningful way. I was also quite inspired by the values I was raised with, the experiences I had outdoors, and the relationship I fostered with the Earth and the land, and wanted to weave it all into a tangible creation.

IS SAGE AVAILABLE DIGITALLY?

Not at this time! A core intention behind Sage is cultivating a book you can hold, feel, and experience. As we move to more digital spaces as a society, I wanted to create something rooted against that. There is so much value in stepping away from technology, being in the present moment, picking up Sage, flipping through, feeling the pages, and soaking in each and every word and photograph. That feeling is simply something that can't be replicated digitally. For special scenarios, like if you are overseas, or in need of a more accessible version for sight, we can chat about offering a digital version!

WHERE IS SAGE BASED OUT OF?

Home for me is the Northeast, but the Sage community, and those working with the publication are from all different corners! Lots of Northeast based creatives, and many from California, Oregon and Washington.

IS SAGE A MAGAZINE OR A BOOK?

We call ourselves a magazine because we publish issues on a quarterly basis, however, Sage is a book in its structure; a 200+ page hardcover publication printed on uncoated card stock with soy ink.

HOW DOES ONE GET FEATURED IN SAGE?

Applications to have a feature in our Sprouts segment in the print publication open on a quarterly basis. It's a short and easy application, and as long as it's a good fit. You're in! For questions and inquiries, contact hello@sagezine.com.

HOW CAN I WORK WITH SAGE?

We are always so delighted to see the immense amount of creatives that want to work with us. Due to our small size, unfortunately at this time, we aren’t hiring. That being said, we are always stoked to work on creative collaborations and project. Drop a line if you’d like to work together: hello@sagezine.com. Due to our high volume of emails, and being a one-woman run publication, please allow 1-2 weeks for a reply.

HOW CAN I SUPPORT SAGE MAGAZINE?

Buying a print copy of Sage is certainly the best way to support Sage. Other ways include: becoming a patron which supports us financially on a monthly basis, following along on Instagram, sharing our content with your community, or simply just being apart of the community. I'm so incredibly grateful for it all.

WHO RUNS SAGE MAGAZINE?

I, Bella Brodsky, run Sage as a whole; creating the print publication, conducting interviews, connecting with creatives, taking photographs, cultivating graphic design projects, running the social media, designing the website, operating wholesale, managing finances and the business aspect, and other little tasks in between! Maddie Nasch organizes and designs pieces for our digital space. Julia Braffett and Grace Arnold are on the research team for infographics we publish on our Instagram. I have a wonderful bunch of individuals that contribute on a one-time-basis to our print publication! You can meet everyone here.
